    RESPECT

    • Admitting when I am wrong and learning from my mistakes.

    ATTITUDE

    • Making myself and my family proud by following the rules.
    • Trying my best (even after experiencing failure).
    • Recognizing what others do for me and showing appreciation for others.

    RESPONSIBLE AND READY

    • Being on time and in my assigned seat at the start of class and school
    • Remembering my supplies every day and having my assignments completed on time.
    • Coming ready to actively participate and put in my best effort to learning and trying new things.


    Scholars who are not following the components of the Meany R.O.A.R. will be subject to an intervention, as appropriately determined.

    MEANY MONEY

    “Meany Money” is handed out by teachers and administrators to scholars who are ‘caught’ exemplifying any number of the components of R.O.A.R. during the school day.  Scholars can use their Meany Money to purchase items from the Meany Market, enter drawings for larger prizes, and more.

    ADVISORY SESSIONS

    To support scholar success, we focus on the following areas during our daily Advisory Sessions (similar to a homeroom class) for 25 minutes, 4 days per week.
      The themes are: 
    Motivational Mondays, Social/Emotional Learning - Tuesday and Thursday, and Fix it Friday. 

     



    HELPING SCHOLARS to SUCCEED

    There might be times when you make mistakes and don't think before you make choices. This is the procedure your teacher will use when you break classroom rules or policies. The idea is for your teacher and parent/guardians to help you to be successful in the classroom, and to make sure that one scholar does not interfere with the learning of others. Remember, if you are disrupting the class, you are taking away important learning time from all the other students. Teachers, counselors, administrators, and all adults in the building want you to learn that you are making choices, and help you make good choices consistently.

    Scholar Procedures:

    1. Asking for help by way of a space to write and reflect or a person to talk to.
    2. Recount what happened in this incident.
    3. Think about what affected the situation.
    4. Understand what is being said.
    5. Ask questions if you do not understand.
    6. Letting people know what would help you calm down.
    7. Take responsibility for any misbehavior or mistake you made.

    Teacher/Staff Procedures:

    1. Give a warning and reminder of appropriate behavior.
    2. Discuss the problem with the scholar. Staff might also ask you to write something to reflect on the problem and make a plan for better behavior. This may happen in another classroom. (If you disrupt the second classroom, this would be an immediate referral to our grade-level administrators.)
    3. Assign classroom-based consequence and contact parent/guardian to confer about the situation

      **Note: This could include lunch/after school detention held by the teacher. After school detentions requires prior approval from parent/guardian.

    4. Consult with other team teachers to make a plan.
    5. Write a referral to the grade-level administrator.
    6. Conduct a team meeting with the scholar, parent/guardian, teammates, counselor and administrator.

    Administrative Procedures:

    Administrators assign consequences in a progressive manner. The following is a list of possible consequences: lunch clean up, lunch detention, community service, after school detention, Friday school, mediation, in-school suspension, suspension, or expulsion. The consequences will depend on the behavior, how many times the scholar has been referred, and the circumstances involved. All formal disciplinary actions are guided by the Seattle School District Policies. You have been given a copy of these policies in your first day packet—please read them carefully.  Please be aware that certain consequences require parent/guardian permission, specifically, after school consequences.

    Severe Incidents:

    Scholars engaging in dangerous, verbally or physically abusive, or illegal behavior should be referred directly to the grade-level administrator via a call for security to the main office. There will be no other steps; you will be escorted directly to the grade-level administrator. Severe behaviors include:

    1. Fighting or being physically abusive with another person.
    2. Harassment and bullying: verbal threats; intimidation; bullying behaviors; racial slurs; unwelcome religious-based or sexual comments, including jokes, or inappropriate touching or gestures.
    3. Continued defiance of staff directions, despite previous intervention attempts, despite warnings.
    4. Willfully damaging or taking property.
    5. Possession, use, sale, or barter of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.
    6. Possession of any weapons, fireworks, or other objects that may be potentially dangerous or appear to be dangerous.
    7. Not providing your name or giving a false name when asked by an adult at school.
