UNEXCUSED ABSENCES ARE TRUANCY. TRUANCY IS AGAINST THE LAW. Scholars who fail to bring notes or have parents/guardians call in for them will be marked unexcused and will be subject to truancy laws.

Truancy Law on Unexcused Absences/Becca Bill: Unexcused absences will result in needing to make up the time, parent conferences or other consequences determined by Meany Middle School staff.

It is important for students to be on time to class everyday because every minute of instruction counts. Late students lose valuable instruction time, cause teachers to repeat instructions, and create distractions for others. We are striving to prepare every child for high school, college, and beyond.

If you are tardy to first period, go directly to the the attendance office.  The attendance secretary and administrator will assign the appropriate interventions or consequences.

MAKE-UP LEARNING: After being tardy or absent, YOU must take responsibility to ask your teachers what learning activities you have missed.  If you are absent more than three consecutive days, parents/guardians should contact your child’s teacher (206-413-2100) to request assignments.  Twenty-four hours’ notice is required to fill homework requests.

If you are leaving Meany Middle School please bring a written note from a parent/guardian to the Main Office at least one day prior to the time of withdrawal. You must return all books and clear all fines before leaving to attend another school.
